About Us

Our Story

Milk Bank Nigeria is focused on providing pasteurised donor human milk to babies who have no access to breast milk, as recommended by World Health Organization (WHO).

It was founded in 2022 by Dr. Chinny Obinwanne, a medical doctor and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

The idea of a milk bank came to her a couple of years ago when many mothers were trying to get breast milk for their babies. Each time she receives these kinds of requests, she and her team her unable to provide breast milk to the baby, they die most of the time.

The first request she received was when a Nigerian mum had triplet and there were massive messages on social media. People came to her DM asking if she had donor milk. That was the first she saw the need for donor milk in Nigeria. At the end of the day the mum didn’t get and she lost two of those babies.

Another time, it was a surrogate mother, she had four babies. Donor milk was unavailable for her babies and she lost all them.

After witnessing these heartbreaking stories, Dr. Chinny set out to establish Nigeria’s first donor human milk bank. Her vision is simple but powerful: no baby in Nigeria should die due to lack of breast milk.
