About Us
OUR STORY
Milk bank Nigeria is focuses on providing pasteurized donor human milk to babies who have no access to breast milk, as recommended by World health Organization (WHO). Established by Dr Chinny in 2022, in an effort to reduce neonatal mortality in Nigeria.
The idea of a milk bank came to her a couple of years ago when many mothers were trying to get breast milk for their babies. Each time she receives these kinds of requests, she and her team her unable to provide breast milk to the baby, they die most of the time.
The first request she received was when a Nigerian mum had triplet and there were massive messages on social media. People came to her DM asking if she had donor milk. That was the first she saw the need for donor milk in Nigeria. At the end of the day the mum didn’t get and she lost two of those babies.
Another time, she was a surrogate mother, she had four babies. Donor milk was unavailable for her babies and she lost all them.
These cases placed a burden on Dr Chinny to establish a milk bank in Nigeria, in order provide pasteurized donor human milk for babies so that they could have a chance at life.
Our major focus at the milk bank is to provide pasteurized donor human milk to preterms that are sick, followed by preterms that are healthy, and then healthy babies that are sick. The availability of pasteurized milk will improve the health outcomes for premature and sick babies, foster better health for children and decrease health care expenses. The milk bank receives human milk from carefully screened donor to pasteurize, freeze, and distribute them in Nigeria.
